Juday to Jamby

As we all know, the campaign for national position had started and most of the candidates have stars or celebrity endorsers, Let’s look at Manny Villar for example, he had Willie Revillame, Dolphy and Michael V as endorsers. Does the Stars really had a big role in today’s political system?

Jamby Madrigal had a commented on this matter, that she had regretted hiring a star to endorsed her. Is she being “ungreatful” to Judy ann Santos-Agoncillo? For those who can’t recall Jamby run for senator last 2004 and lost and she once again run for the said position last election and won. during the last election she had Juday as her endorser.

As for Juday’s side she just had this statement, “Kahit naman siguro papano, I was able to convince four or five people to vote for her in every province.”

It was still ourselves who are we going to vote, with celebrity or none.

Celebrity endorses should take leave

According to Commission on Election or COMELEC, celebrities endorsing politicians or those who are running for a government position should take a leaver of absence from their work or shows while joining the campaign, where the start of the campaign for the national candidates started last February 9 and will last until May 8, two days before the election. While for the local candidates, campaign starts on March 26.
Republic Act 9006 or the Fair Elections Act clearly prohibits actors from making anymore appearances once they endorse or volunteer for a candidate during the campaign period according to Ferdinand Rafanan of the Comelec Law Department.

Section 6.6 of the law reads: “Any mass media columnist, commentator, announcer, reporter, on-air correspondent or personality who is a candidate for any elective public office or is a campaign volunteer for or employed or retained in any capacity by any candidate or political party shall be deemed resigned, if so required by [his] employer, or shall take a leave of absence from his/her work as such during the campaign period.”
