If you’re looking to to lose weight, you’ll also want to begin exercising regularly. Perhaps you’re new to exercising or you haven’t exercised in a long time? Even if it can appear overwhelming, you can work your way into a workout program bit by bit by walking. Be sure to incorporate walking with any other exercise you are currently doing.

There are many ways to mix walking into your everyday schedule. You and your pet dog can both get exercise by taking a 10-minute walk around your vicinity. Ten minutes at a time may not appear like a lot of time spent walking until you see that it is equivalent to 70 minutes over the course of a week. Walking your dog twice per day will double that number. See if you can walk to where you work if you live pretty close to it. Of course, if your workplace is two hours away, you may not want to try walking that far–unless you’re preparing for a marathon! Walking half an hour to your workplace is not unachievable and, by the time you walk to and from work, you will have walked at least an hour a day. If you commute to work, merely walk to the next bus stop so that you do a bit more walking each day. Its not hard to add in walking.

As walking is an aerobic exercise, you’ll burn up calories, which means you’ll lose weight and it’s also wonderful for your heart. Walking is much more painless on your joints than running. My brother is very thin (but he eats a lot of junk food) and I ask him how he does it. Even though he says he doesn’t have a clue, I think the fact that he walks daily may help. As you walk more regularly and notice changes, you’ll want to do more or increase the intensity level of your walks. If you sense you’re ready to move on to something more challenging, don’t be frightened to do it. Consider talking at a faster speed or if you’re feeling really confident, you could begin jogging. The next you need to do is to add even more arduous activities.

There should be no reason for you to not go walk for a few minutes daily. Even if you have a full schedule, you can take out 10 minutes to walk around the neighborhood, or if you have a gym membership, nip in and do 30 minutes on the treadmill at a slow pace to start off with.
