After American promoter Bob Arum’s”final counter offer” was quickly turned down by Mayweather’s chief adviser, Leonard Ellerbe, and negotiator, Richard Schaefer, anticipation of recovering the megafight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are slim.
Arum, which is the main man of Top Rank, had given the Mayweather camp until yesterday to decide on his final proposal regarding the blood tests issue, that both parties let the Nevada State Athletic Commission to make the final decision. It’s always been Vegas, where it didn’t come as a surprise that the megafight will take place. There is no other place to hold it that Vegas, that’s where the money is. And definitely it will be in the MGM Grand. The choice was based on both fighters’ familiarity with the location and also on their past success there.
Pacquiao has fought six times at the MGM Grand, winning four (against Lehlo Ledwaba, Oscar dela Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto), losing once to Erik Morales and drawing once with Juan Manuel Marquez. Mayweather, on the other hand, has fought six times at the MGM during his unbeaten run of 40 fights. His wins at MGM came against Gregorio Vargas, Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo, Dela Hoya, Hatton and Marquez.
